In February of 2014, Bear Tuff Miss EmmaLee took a short vacation out to Moab, UT, to meet Lil’ Ranchin’ Hercules for some fun in the sun. Ok, well, it rained, but EmmaLee and Herc still had a wonderful time. On Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12, EmmaLee presented me with 7 healthy puppies. They are all black, or black based, except for one male pup, who is possibly a dark apricot. The two piebald pups are females, and I have another female that has a white mark on her rump. Several of the black pups seem to have sabling or perhaps calico. Female #2 has a high percentage of brown/red hair in the black, and I’m noticing several of the other pups have similar coloring. As they mature, this will more than likely change, but it will be interesting to see what color they are when they are older. Hercules is a black calico, so it would be very possible for the pups to be also.
This litter is a great combination of older Decker, Fire Mountain, Sycamore Valley and Diamond Flats lines. Also, as a nice addition to these lines, these pups have a line from EmmaLee that is from bird hunting Rat Terriers from Iowa that Dereth Wylie was able to bring in. Their pedigrees are on my Planned Litter page, https://ratraceratterriers.wordpress.com/planned-litters/.
I expect this litter to mature to a moderate size. Em is 16″ at the shoulder and weighs around 25 lbs. Hercules is about the same at around 1 1/2 years old. Em has thrown size on her past pups from a much smaller male, so I can see these pups easily maturing to 18″ or more. The potential is there. Their temperaments should be good, builds should be solid with good bone, and they all should have good hunt. Tails have been docked, but the dewclaws remain on.
For this litter I am creating a diary that I hope to keep current as they mature over the next two months. I will also follow them as they grow up as I can, especially the apricot male and if I do keep back a female. This should be an interesting project for me to do, as I am really looking forward to seeing how these pups mature, as well as how they may differ from my previous litters, since the sires are so different. This will also give me a place to check back on their progress and learn more about raising puppies.
I am asking $350 for them. They will be registered with NRTA and UKCI. I am also looking into UKC and AKC. They are PLL clear by parentage. If you want one of these pups, please send a deposit to be added to the list. There is a breeder hold on the apricot male pup, and a breeder hold on a female.
WHILE I WILL CONTINUE TO POST HERE ABOUT THIS LITTER, I HAVE CREATED A SISTER BLOG SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS LITTER. VISIT http://diaryofadeckerratterrierlitter.wordpress.com/ FOR REGULAR UPDATES.
Here is a video of them at about a day and a half.
